Cloud Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Provide support for MEDCHART cloud production, including cloud support, migration, environment modernization, and database assistance.

• Aid in planning and implementing cloud migrations as well as modernizing cloud environments.

• Maintain, patch, and upgrade Azure servers utilizing the Web Portal and scripting techniques.

• Create and comprehend DISA STIG checklists and report on security compliance.

• Assist the MEDCHART DBA in monitoring and maintaining SQL databases.

• Support database disaster recovery efforts and backup monitoring tasks.

• Investigate slow-performing databases and queries.

• Authorize and troubleshoot connections with external partners and both DoD and commercial systems.

• Aid in planning, configuring, migrating, enhancing, and modernizing cloud architecture.

• Coordinate regression testing and operational validation post-migration or cloud optimization efforts.

• Develop and uphold migration and modernization plans, schedules, Levels of Effort (LOEs), and technical recommendations for Government assessment and approval.

• Formulate and maintain database disaster recovery strategies.

• Participate in weekly or directed program/project status meetings.

• Evaluate hosting and cloud capabilities to minimize attack surfaces, enhance customer experience and performance, or decrease sustainment costs.

• Plan and facilitate the transfer of data/code from current hosting facilities to target environments, ensuring completeness post-migration.

• Assess and optimize database systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in a technical domain.

• Bachelor's degree in a technical area or equivalent relevant experience; Master's degree preferred.

• Must possess an active Secret Clearance (NACI, ANACI, or Tier 3).

• Practical experience with the Microsoft Azure Cloud ecosystem, including server maintenance, patching, and upgrades via the Web Portal and scripting.

• Capability to generate and interpret DISA STIG checklists using third-party tools for security compliance scanning and reporting.

• Experience in supporting MEDCHART databases, scripts, and SQL packages.

• Familiarity with planning cloud migrations and modernization for accredited Government or DoD information systems.

• Knowledge in environment planning, data/code migration, cloud cost optimization, resilience, performance tuning, and DevSecOps pipelines.

• Ability to prepare comprehensive level-of-effort estimates, migration plans, modernization plans, schedules, architecture recommendations, and technical presentations.

• Proficiency in PowerShell and scripting.

• Familiarity with CI/CD, cloud platform administrative/architecture tools, architecture modeling/documentation tools, security and compliance documentation tools, as well as database/data migration and validation tools.

• Experience with AI coding and scripting tools.

• Knowledge of database implementation practices that comply with internal and external security regulations and standards.

• Experience with IDEs such as Visual Studio or Eclipse.

• Familiarity with database development tools like Oracle/SQL Server clients, source control tools, static code analysis, and testing tools.

• Preferred: Experience with Dynamic State Configuration (DSC) scripting.

• Preferred: Understanding of firewall concepts and their implementation.
