Principal Clinical Molecular Geneticist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Analyze clinical genetic testing data and associated reports.

• Diagnose technical challenges and ensure corrective measures are implemented.

• Evaluate scientific literature and interpret genetic variants.

• Compose, revise, and finalize clinical genetic test reports.

• Develop gene panels utilizing exhaustive literature-based gene lists.

• Lead and coordinate projects aimed at process enhancements, focusing on cost efficiency and productivity.

• Act as an exception handler and a specialist resource for intricate cases.

• Engage in the selection of testing methodologies and enhance systems, processes, and procedures.

• Mentor and develop team members.

• Foster communication, collaboration, professional growth, teamwork, and conflict resolution.

• Interact with employees, clients, healthcare professionals, and vendors, including representing Abbott at conferences.

• Ensure laboratory adherence to SOPs, quality systems, and relevant professional, federal, state, and local regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctoral Degree in a Chemical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory science from an accredited institution, along with necessary certification.

• Certification from the American Board of Bioanalytics (ABB) as a High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD), or from the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG), Molecular Genetics, or Cytogenetics, or from the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG).

• Alternatively, a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree with over 3 years of experience in a clinical lab with director oversight, certified in anatomical or clinical pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology.

• Experience in conducting high complexity genetic testing.

• A minimum of 4 years of post-certification experience in reviewing and signing clinical test reports, or over 7 years of total experience in this area or equivalent.

• Current New York state Certificate of Qualification in necessary areas of oversight, or capability to obtain within 6 months.

• Proven ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.

• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Capability to manage confidential information.

• Proficiency in cross-functional communication and building effective working relationships.

• Flexibility to work designated schedules, including nights and/or weekends as required.

• Competence in using a mobile device, tablet, or computer, with the ability to type for approximately 90% of a typical working day.

• Willingness to travel up to 10% of working time.
