Principal Backend Engineer – Music Discovery Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Design and develop robust, scalable, and secure APIs for music catalogs, recommendations, and search functionalities.

• Create data models and manage integrations with third-party music metadata providers, streaming services, and analytics platforms.

• Drive backend engineering initiatives by establishing coding standards, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.

• Collaborate with product, frontend, and data teams to define API contracts and ensure a seamless user experience.

• Enhance backend service performance to achieve low latency and high availability.

• Deploy observability tools for monitoring, logging, and alerting to maintain system reliability.

• Assess new technologies and frameworks to boost development speed and enhance system capabilities.

• Contribute to data-driven features within the Data Team and the broader Harman Software Experiences organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in backend services development.

• Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary backend development tools.

• High proficiency in Node.js, Python, Go, or comparable backend programming languages.

• In-depth understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and cloud-native development.

• Practical experience with GCP, AWS, and Azure platforms.

• Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless architectures.

• Proficient in automated CI/CD pipelines.

• Familiarity with databases like PostgreSQL and BigQuery.

• Experience with caching strategies and messaging queues such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.

• Knowledge of music metadata standards, recommendation systems, or audio streaming APIs is an advantage.

• Strongly desired experience with machine learning pipelines or recommendation engines.

• Experience handling machine learning workloads in production environments.

• Background in audio music streaming services.

• Understanding of music theory, audio fingerprinting, or digital signal processing.

• Familiarity with C# and .NET technologies.

• Openness to travel up to 5%, both domestically and internationally.

• Availability for meetings and team interactions during typical continental US business hours.

• Successful completion of a background check and drug screening as a prerequisite for employment.
