Principal Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.

📋 Description

• Scale essential systems that serve over 600,000 Qonto customers within the Foundations domain.

• Assess technical risks across core systems, handling around 600,000 daily transactions, search indexing, and billing processes.

• Lead architectural initiatives to avoid infrastructure bottlenecks.

• Take ownership of high-stakes technical programs that span multiple teams from inception to completion.

• Collaborate with departments such as Legal, Risk, Compliance, and company leadership.

• Identify future investment opportunities for the platform, focusing on granular permissions and AI-native integrations.

• Convert strategic investments into actionable technical roadmaps.

• Enhance engineering standards through mentoring, structured coaching programs, comprehensive documentation, and technical enablement.

• Align company and customer requirements with backend technical strategies.

• Effectively communicate technical strategies to both engineers and executives.

• Determine priorities, propose roadmaps, and drive execution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in designing and scaling high-volume backend systems, including transactions, search indexing, billing, or related fields.

• Experience leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives involving Legal, Risk, Compliance, and leadership across the organization.

• Ability to operate independently in uncertain environments, map ecosystems, identify risks early, and propose initiatives proactively.

• Experience in elevating engineering standards for teams through mentoring, documentation, or structured technical training programs.

• Familiarity with AI tools to enhance architecture, prototyping, and communication processes.

• Strong enthusiasm for AI-native integrations.

• Capability to align company and customer needs with tangible technical plans and articulate them clearly to engineers and executives.
