This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.
• Lead the political strategy to cultivate relationships with key decision-makers across a range of Midwest states.
• Formulate and implement communication strategies that reflect state-specific energy forecasts and political contexts.
• Act as the representative for United in discussions with state decision-makers.
• Establish, nurture, and manage relationships with policymakers, advocacy groups, coalitions, industry experts, and regulatory bodies.
• Utilize project management tools and systems to achieve both short-term and long-term objectives.
• Organize and maintain information for effective program knowledge management and retention.
• Report on campaign progress, results, and key metrics to both internal and external stakeholders, including member companies.
• Participate in the ideation and development of strategies and tactics to enhance program effectiveness.
• Travel to engage with key stakeholders approximately 1–2 times per quarter.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
• 3–6 years of professional experience, ideally including at least 2 years in positions that involve interaction with elected officials.
• A strong commitment to and a proven track record of leading work in alignment with United's Core Values.
• Relevant experience in political and/or advocacy campaigns is essential.
• Experience in advocacy or policy related to the advanced energy sector is a plus.
• Proficient in assessing audiences and customizing engagement and communication strategies accordingly.
• Ability to quickly establish rapport with key stakeholders.
• Skilled in effectively conveying critical aspects of technical subjects to decision-makers.
• Proven experience in supporting multi-stakeholder programs or campaigns.
• Independent self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.
• Comfortable working remotely, managing new projects, organizing one's calendar, and meeting high expectations.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities.
• Experience in handling confidential information and intelligence.
• Capacity to operate in situations of ambiguity and rapidly evolving political landscapes.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, roughly 1–2 times per quarter.
• U.S. residency is required.
• Preference for candidates with a background in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, or Wisconsin.
