This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Oversee legislative, regulatory, and political trends in Nautilus' key markets, concentrating primarily on the Northeast.
• Evaluate proposed laws, regulatory actions, commission directives, and utility submissions to gauge business implications and potential opportunities.
• Draft policy memoranda, legislative overviews, briefing documents, and strategic advice for executive management.
• Create and sustain tracking systems for legislation, rulemaking, stakeholder interactions, advocacy priorities, policy databases, and market analysis.
• Assist in state-specific government affairs strategies; pinpoint market prospects and policy challenges; and support legislative priorities, advocacy tactics, and regulatory stances.
• Perform political and stakeholder assessments to facilitate long-term business planning.
• Collaborate with lobbyists, trade organizations, coalition partners, consultants, and outside advisors.
• Prepare materials for coalition gatherings, legislative meetings, regulatory discussions, conferences, policy events, and stakeholder outreach.
• Aid in participation within state and national trade associations.
• Work alongside Legal, Development, Origination, Business Development, Finance, and Operations teams to synchronize business goals and government affairs strategies.
• Assist executive leadership with policy briefings and decision-making documents.
• Currently pursuing a master's degree or has recently obtained a master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Environmental Policy, Energy Policy, Government Affairs, or a related discipline.
• Three to five years of experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative matters, regulatory affairs, political strategy, or a similar field.
• Experience in legislative or regulatory roles, particularly with lawmakers, state legislatures, regulatory commissions, public utility commissions, executive agencies, or comparable organizations.
• Background in the energy or electricity sector is highly regarded.
• Proven knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes and their influence on market-based business decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with experience in crafting executive-level briefing documents.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management capabilities.
• Capacity to handle multiple policy initiatives across various states while working independently in a dynamic, team-oriented setting.
• Familiarity with community solar, distributed energy resources, distributed generation, virtual net metering, or utility regulation.
• Experience in the clean energy sector, working with trade associations, state legislatures, public utility commissions, or executive agencies.
• Proficient in distilling legislative and regulatory updates into strategic proposals for executive leadership.
• Preference given to candidates located in the Northeast, especially those in Boston, New York, or Philadelphia.
