Platform Engineering Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Directly report to the CTO.

• Manage the complete lifecycle of shared platform and software-delivery capabilities, from discovery and prioritization to implementation, adoption, operations, and ongoing improvement.

• Foster trusted partnerships with engineering teams, translating recurring workflow challenges into shared capabilities and measurable enhancements.

• Develop and oversee an outcome-focused roadmap that includes delivery tooling, cloud foundations, reusable services, reliability, and developer experience.

• Make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions for a small team.

• Create reusable, self-service capabilities with the necessary controls integrated into tools, workflows, and automation.

• Take ownership of CI/CD, release automation, deployment and rollback capabilities, shared testing platforms, and standards for source-code repository and branching.

• Define expectations for code reviews and implement automated quality gates, including branch protection, static analysis, dependency and security scanning, build validation, and automated testing.

• Oversee cloud platform foundations, infrastructure as code, environment provisioning, secrets and artifact management, shared integration infrastructure, and reusable technical services.

• Establish Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including observability, service-level objectives, on-call coverage, incident response, problem management, and resilience planning.

• Collaborate with Engineering, IT Operations, Security, and Quality to embed controls and validation evidence into delivery pipelines and establish ownership and escalation paths.

• Provide backup leadership during critical infrastructure incidents with IT Operations.

• Set performance baselines and monitor metrics related to deployment, change, pipeline, testing, adoption, and developer experience.

• Utilize performance data, incident trends, and developer feedback to minimize build times, unreliable tests, deployment friction, and recurring manual tasks.

• Partner with engineering leaders to enhance maintainability, address technical debt, and improve application reliability.

• Evaluate, pilot, validate, govern, and implement AI-assisted engineering and operations tools.

• Mitigate vendor and key-person dependencies through automation, documentation, cross-training, and knowledge transfer.

• Lead by influence within an established, regulated organization while adhering to FDA regulations, ICH, GCP, SOPs, protocols, and company policies.

• Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, engineering, or a related technical field—or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.

• Relevant cloud, DevOps, or SRE certifications are valued but not mandatory.

• Background in platform engineering, developer productivity, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or site reliability engineering (SRE), including relevant leadership experience.

• Proven success in building shared capabilities that achieved strong adoption across engineering teams and measurably enhanced delivery performance and system reliability.

• Experience in established or regulated organizations.

• Practical, adaptable approach suitable for a small team setting.

• Familiarity with Microsoft products such as Azure, Azure DevOps, Dynamics, etc.

• Must reside in the United States.

• Ability to serve as a hands-on player-coach, leading one or two platform and SRE engineers in India while directly contributing to technical design and implementation.

• Indoor office environment; requires sitting, typing, standing, and walking.

• Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.

• Regular attendance as scheduled is crucial.
