
Platform Engineer – Compute Capacity

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Develop and sustain Supabase’s compute capacity planning across various regions and instance families.
• Model headroom targets and evaluate cost trade-offs to facilitate buffer policy assessments and approvals.
• Create and maintain automation for acquiring reservations, top-ups, fleet reconciliation, and drift detection.
• Enhance infrastructure as code for provisioning relevant to capacity.
• Establish and sustain metrics for saturation, reservation coverage, idle buffer, forecast errors, and provisioning latency.
• Design and optimize alerting systems for headroom, quota, and reservation concerns.
• Assist in the demand gate process for customer commitments, launches, migrations, and new regions.
• Contribute to right-sizing initiatives, instance-family migrations, autoscaling enhancements, and workload consolidation.
• Decrease compute costs per database through right-sizing, strategic placement, and commitment coverage.
• Engage in capacity incident response and follow up on post-incident activities.
• Over 5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, SRE, platform, or capacity engineering, preferably at SaaS or cloud infrastructure scale.
• Hands-on software engineering experience managing and operating a service.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, and Go.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools, such as Pulumi or Terraform.
• Experience in building or maintaining observability systems, including metrics and reliable alerting; knowledge of Prometheus/Grafana, CloudWatch, or similar tools.
• Strong working knowledge of AWS EC2, including instance families and generations, purchasing options, capacity reservations, and quota mechanics.
• Financial acumen regarding reservation economics and the trade-offs between coverage, utilization, and cost.
• Excellent communication skills across engineering and finance teams.
