Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage internal platform infrastructure.

• Create, operate, and sustain resilient, scalable platform foundations across environments by adhering to established designs and standards.

• Provide support and operational management for services on Azure and AWS, utilizing least-privilege access, audited controls, and automation as standard practices.

• Establish deployment workflows, self-service capabilities, golden paths, and reusable templates that facilitate safe and efficient shipping for teams.

• Design and maintain infrastructure using Terraform, incorporating modular, DRY patterns, suitable testing, and CI/CD integration.

• Employ SRE principles in everyday tasks, aiding in capacity planning, reliability enhancements, and secure-by-default patterns.

• Implement logging, metrics, and tracing while creating dashboards and alerts.

• Engage in on-call rotations and contribute to root cause analysis and ongoing improvement efforts.

• Collaborate closely with development, security, and operations teams to deliver platform capabilities, execute agreed-upon priorities, and effectively manage operational risks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience in operating and supporting workloads on Azure or AWS, including troubleshooting and production support.

• Strong understanding of microservices-based and distributed systems, including their deployment using containerized, serverless, and VM-based models.

• Experience in implementing and managing Terraform in multi-zone production environments, utilizing modular, DRY designs, secure state backends, and working with both greenfield and existing (brownfield) infrastructure.

• Good knowledge of container lifecycles, image creation, networking, and secure deployment automation.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar) encompassing build, test, security scanning, Terraform deployments, and secure artifact and secret management.

• Proficient in scripting with PowerShell and/or Bash.

• Familiarity with observability stacks such as Azure Monitor, ELK, Prometheus, or Grafana.

• Knowledge of alerting best practices and troubleshooting using logs, metrics, and traces.
