Platform Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services utilizing Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

• Create secure and scalable REST APIs that support various Platform and product teams.

• Develop reusable services and shared backend functions.

• Write clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code.

• Enhance backend architecture, scalability, and overall performance.

• Construct reusable libraries and services that cater to multiple engineering teams.

• Engage in platform modernization and technical architecture initiatives.

• Contribute to service reliability and operational excellence.

• Integrate with both internal and external enterprise systems.

• Design secure authentication and authorization frameworks.

• Maintain API contracts and related documentation.

• Facilitate service-to-service communication and distributed architectures.

• Develop automated tests and take part in code reviews.

• Support CI/CD pipelines and automate deployment processes.

• Troubleshoot production issues and partake in incident response efforts.

• Monitor service performance and implement enhancements for reliability.

• Support the VA.gov Platform, which delivers digital services to millions of Veterans.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

• Bachelor’s Degree is necessary.

• 3–5 years of experience in a Backend or Full Stack Engineer role.

• Strong proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

• Experience in designing and building RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.

• Experience with integrating external APIs and services.

• Knowledge of background job processing, such as Sidekiq.

• Proficient in Git and GitHub workflows.

• Experience in writing automated tests; RSpec is preferred.

• Understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.

• Experience in Agile software development environments.
