Platform Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malta, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Create event contracts for both backend and frontend teams and establish the ingestion edge that enforces them.

• Manage stream-processing and low-latency state layers that convert raw events into real-time signals.

• Develop and deploy rules and decision-making layers that transform signals into rapid, explainable, and secure actions.

• Specify delivery guarantees, versioning, replay strategies, and privacy-by-design for the event platform in compliance with Brazil's regulatory framework.

• Define and execute the initial production use case from beginning to end, including ideation, architecture, and the live system, while documenting reusable patterns.

• Convert business requirements into technical designs and communicate architectural trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

• Establish initial standards for code quality, reviews, on-call duties, and incident management processes.

• Develop measurement tools, decision logging, hold-back groups, and capabilities for historical rule replay.

• Collaborate with the project lead and take full ownership of the technical architecture from start to finish.

• Maintain a hands-on approach throughout production and utilize AI tools for daily engineering tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Knowledge of real-time systems architecture.

• Experience in building and managing event-driven systems, including Kafka or similar technologies, along with debugging and resolving real incidents.

• Proven experience in owning schemas and data contracts as enduring interfaces.

• Practical experience with stream processing and low-latency states, including handling out-of-order events, ensuring exactly-once delivery, and managing cancellable timers.

• Experience in developing or integrating rules, decision-making, or real-time personalization systems.

• A history of making architectural decisions amidst uncertainty.

• A curious mindset and a self-motivated approach.
