Plant Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary financial leader for the Remotec manufacturing facility located in Clinton, Tennessee.

• Take responsibility for the plant's P&L, balance sheet items under plant control, and cash conversion metrics.

• Oversee annual operating plans, monthly forecasts, and rolling outlooks.

• Clarify volume, mix, price, and cost variances to both plant and corporate leadership.

• Present performance results during operations reviews and suggest corrective measures.

• Maintain job order costing systems for robot assemblies and subassemblies, incorporating multi-level BOMs, routings, labor rates, and overhead rates.

• Analyze variances related to purchase price, material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap/rework, and yield.

• Assist with NPI costing, make-vs-buy assessments, and ECO cost-impact evaluations.

• Model capacity, overtime, shift structure, and automation investment relative to labor costs.

• Monitor COPQ, warranty expenses, field-failure trends, and aftermarket/service margins.

• Ensure accuracy of inventory across raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.

• Update inventory reserves on a monthly basis.

• Lead cycle counts, conduct annual physical inventory, and reconcile ERP with the general ledger.

• Execute an accurate and timely month-end close, including accruals, reserves, intercompany transactions, and cutoff procedures.

• Design and oversee internal controls at the site level for inventory, payroll, purchasing, capital expenditures, and revenue recognition.

• Coordinate both external and internal site audits as necessary.

• Assess and monitor capital projects, including ROI, payback periods, and post-implementation evaluations.

• Support customer pricing strategies, contract costing, and margin analysis for large orders.

• Identify opportunities for working capital optimization.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the plant finance team.

• Enhance ERP/MRP utilization for costing, inventory management, and shop-floor transactions using Global Shop.

• Foster relationships with operations, engineering, quality, supply chain, HR, and EHS teams.

• Spend time on the production floor to gain insights into process realities.

• Maintain integrity, safety, and data discipline throughout operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Over 12 years of progressive experience in manufacturing finance or cost accounting, including responsibilities across one or multiple plants.

• Proven track record of managing a manufacturing P&L and job order cost environment (BOMs, routings, labor and overhead rates, variance analysis).

• Practical experience with month-end closing, inventory accounting, and internal controls.

• Proficient in advanced Excel and familiar with ERP manufacturing modules; capable of extracting and critically assessing transactional data.

• Willingness to engage directly with production leadership on-site at the Clinton, TN plant is preferred but not mandatory.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Preferred qualifications include CPA, CMA, or MBA.

• Preferred experience in discrete manufacturing of complex products.

• Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices, value-stream costing, and operational excellence metrics (OEE, first-pass yield, on-time delivery) is advantageous.

• Experience with NPI, configure-to-order, or project/job-costing alongside standard production costing is preferred.
