Physician Coding Educator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +32 more states.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with leaders in Coding, IT, Organizational Development, Revenue Cycle, Compliance, and other departments.

• Deliver coding and documentation education through both in-person classes and virtual sessions for coders and clinicians.

• Assist in the creation of coding educational presentations, tools, and materials.

• Identify, analyze, and report on the educational needs of coders.

• Develop and conduct one-on-one follow-ups and refresher coding education sessions.

• Utilize adult learning principles in education and training initiatives.

• Manage education and training schedules effectively.

• Utilize Learning Connection, ATMS, Skype, or Teams for scheduling presentations.

• Standardize communication regarding educational offerings.

• Create and maintain web-based coding education programs.

• Assign lessons, track results, monitor progress, and identify additional educational needs.

• Assess educational offerings and training programs, making modifications as necessary.

• Suggest course content, technology, and methods of instructional delivery.

• Design educational programs with clear objectives in place.

• Support the development of e-learning and technology-driven learning initiatives.

• Ensure programs have defined learning objectives, accurate and complete content, and proper documentation.

• Conduct research, write, and create learner manuals and facilitator guides.

• Offer train-the-trainer sessions for Coding Supervisors and Coding Leads.

• Provide updates and additional train-the-trainer sessions as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Coding certification from an accredited certifying body, such as AAPC, AHIMA, or other recognized organizations.

• Required certifications include CCA, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, SCP, CPC-I, and Specialty Medical Coding Certification.

• Advanced training beyond high school from an accredited Medical Coding Specialist program.

• Typically, a minimum of 5 years of medical coding experience, encompassing physician revenue cycle processes and health information workflows.

• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.

• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

• Expertise in adult learning concepts.

• Capability to plan, coordinate, and facilitate coding educational programs.

• Highly skilled in both online and in-person teaching methodologies.

• Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office or similar applications, email, and electronic calendars.

• Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

• Comfortable speaking to both small and large groups, networking, and building effective relationships.

• Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment and decision-making.

• Competent in various work environments including virtual, office, clinic/hospital settings.

• Functional speech, hearing, and senses for effective communication.

• Capacity for sustained concentration.

• Willingness to travel and work under road and weather conditions as needed.

• Proficient in operating all necessary equipment to perform the job duties.
