This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +7 more states.
• Design and implement high-voltage substation projects within the 34.5kV–500kV range.
• Create designs and comprehensive engineering deliverables under the guidance of a lead engineer.
• Develop general arrangements, elevations, grounding, and conduit drawings.
• Conduct basic engineering calculations associated with engineering deliverables.
• Execute intricate design tasks utilizing established design principles and practices.
• Utilize standard CAD software to produce drawings and related deliverables.
• Carry out detailed calculations to meet manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
• Inspect completed installations and monitor operations for adherence to design, equipment, operational, and safety standards.
• Supervise project production efforts to guarantee timely and budget-compliant completion.
• Prepare and analyze technical drawings and electrical system specifications.
• Travel to job sites as necessary for evaluation and data collection.
• Provide adequate field notes back to the office to finalize project design.
• Collaborate with senior team members focused on training and mentoring engineers and designers.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in substation or general electrical T&D design.
• Proficient in computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Associate Degree is strongly preferred.
• In-depth understanding of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and the Design Guide for Rural Substations.
• Capability to review and coordinate vendor submissions for design compliance.
• Knowledge of substation phase spacing and electrical clearance standards.
• Ability to create and review comprehensive construction documents with minimal supervision.
• Skilled at designing control enclosure layouts, cable tray layouts, and conduit drawings.
• Familiarity with MV, HV, and EHV substation voltages.
• Competence in developing and designing substation duct banks.
• Ability to interpret engineering calculations and studies and integrate them into design requirements.
• Capacity to adhere to project schedules and complete tasks within budget constraints.
• Extensive knowledge of substation structures and equipment, including connectors, insulators, switches, and conductors.
• Understanding of substation construction and/or commissioning techniques and industry standards.
• Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence.
• Expertise in sketching single line diagrams, layouts, general arrangements, conduit plans, trench plans, grounding plans, and other design documents with little to no oversight.
• Experience in the energy sector or consulting services environment is preferred.
• Proficiency in 3D Modeling is preferred.
