This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts, +1 more state.
• Oversee and coordinate the personal lines underwriting team.
• Ensure prompt decision-making, appropriate risk selection, pricing, and business oversight.
• Drive profitability and growth in the personal lines sector.
• Establish and nurture relationships with agencies.
• Evaluate complex underwriting requests and authorize risks exceeding staff limits.
• Collaborate with field marketing to address agency and company service challenges.
• Participate in weekly and monthly discussions with field and senior leadership.
• Manage customer inquiries and complaints effectively.
• Negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Assess demand and align resources within Personal Lines Underwriting.
• Communicate objectives and foster the development of underwriting team members.
• Design, propose, and execute risk management strategies and procedures.
• Prepare and evaluate performance assessments and lead performance review meetings.
• Engage in quality assessments and corporate audits.
• Implement best practices to enhance underwriting expertise.
• Identify and relay critical issues to relevant stakeholders.
• Contribute to or spearhead project teams and coordinate resources effectively.
• Inspire team members to engage with initiatives and projects.
• Enhance department performance through innovative ideas, processes, and workflows.
• Meet service, production, and quality objectives.
• Stay informed on state strategies and ensure actions align with state goals.
• Manage portfolio business composition and ensure profitable growth.
• Review production outcomes and pinpoint workflow and process efficiencies.
• Recruit and cultivate talent while fostering a growth-oriented mindset.
• Bachelor’s degree with 3 to 6 years of underwriting experience.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of Personal Lines risk management.
• Capability to educate others on underwriting and risk management principles.
• Strong skills in people management.
• Proficient in coaching and professional development support.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
• Aptitude to effectively and creatively leverage systems and resources.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to anticipate customer needs and adopt a proactive stance.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities accordingly.
