This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.
β’ Engage with Rust on Penpot's rendering engine, developed using WASM, Rust, and Skia.
β’ Contribute to the text editor and ongoing enhancements in performance.
β’ Address bugs, enhance performance, and create new features for the rendering engine.
β’ Optimize the smoothness and response times of Penpot's browser.
β’ Collaborate with frontend development, particularly in data transfer between Clojure and the engine.
β’ Operate independently within a horizontal team structure without a managerial figure.
β’ Take part in collective decision-making processes.
β’ Work alongside software developers and Penpot creators within the product team.
β’ Join regular cross-team meetings to discuss business and product developments.
β’ Contribute to an open-source design platform that bridges the gap between designers and developers.
β’ Senior-level, robust experience in rendering engines.
β’ Previous experience with WASM, Rust, and Skia; adeptness in enhancing these technologies.
β’ Familiarity with game engines, graphics libraries, rasterization, GPU pipelines, or related fields is a plus.
β’ Practical frontend experience with JavaScript, browser APIs, HTML, and CSS.
β’ Regular use of language models such as Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or OpenCode.
β’ Comfortable navigating Linux environments.
β’ Proficient in spoken and written English.
β’ Proficient in spoken and written Spanish.
β’ Capable of reading and writing technical documentation and communicating functionally in English.
β’ Familiarity with Clojure or other functional programming languages is advantageous.
β’ Knowledge of JavaScript testing frameworks, including Jest and Cypress, is beneficial.
β’ Understanding of end-to-end testing with Playwright is a plus.
β’ Interest in accessibility and responsible development practices is a plus.
β’ Enthusiasm for design systems and product integration is advantageous.
β’ Previous experience or keen interest in open-source projects is a plus.
β’ Experience with agile methodologies is advantageous.
β’ Collaboration experience within diverse teams is beneficial.
β’ Ability to pose effective product-development inquiries.
β’ Careful testing of personal code through unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
