This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Ensure prompt and effective peer review of submissions.
• Address or appropriately escalate inquiries and concerns from vendors, Customer Care, and PLOS colleagues.
• Identify and eliminate obstacles to submission.
• Recognize workflow inefficiencies, variations, and backlogs.
• Ensure that manuscripts comply with requirements and current policies and procedures.
• Troubleshoot issues related to manuscripts, workflows, and systems.
• Provide expertise and guidance and escalate matters when necessary.
• Propose data-driven recommendations for journal operations and workflow enhancements.
• Maintain standard journal workflows and execute approved process updates.
• Contribute to workflow projects and initiate proposals as needed.
• Manage operations projects and initiatives as directed by the Peer Review Operations Manager.
• Engage daily with vendor representatives and monitor quality and timeliness against targets and KPIs.
• Contribute to operational research outputs aligned with PLOS’s mission.
• Collaborate with international colleagues to enhance the contributor experience for authors, editors, and reviewers.
• Previous experience in peer-reviewed scholarly publishing.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, file types, and file conversions.
• Capability to work under strict deadlines while ensuring quality and accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
• Skill in collaborating constructively with vendors, authors, editors, customers, and international colleagues.
• Interest in science and promoting scientific knowledge.
• A university degree or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with peer review and manuscript management database systems is advantageous; proficiency in Editorial Manager is a plus.
• Knowledge of CRM software such as Salesforce is desirable.
• Understanding of and commitment to open science is preferred.
