This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +7 more states.
• Facilitate the timely and effective peer review process for all submissions.
• Address and resolve queries or concerns raised by vendors, Customer Care, or other PLOS colleagues in a professional manner and within specified timelines, or escalate as necessary.
• Collaborate with colleagues across PLOS to identify and eliminate barriers to submission.
• Proactively assess workflow inefficiencies, variations, or backlogs to pinpoint ongoing issues.
• Ensure that manuscripts comply with requirements and adhere to current policies and procedures.
• Troubleshoot ongoing manuscript, workflow, or system challenges, offering expertise and advice while exercising judgment to resolve or escalate issues when needed.
• Provide data-driven recommendations for the continuous improvement of journal operations and workflows.
• Uphold standard journal workflows and implement approved process updates.
• Participate in workflow projects, submit proposals as requested, and engage in operations projects and initiatives as directed.
• Act as the daily point of contact with vendor representatives, overseeing quality and timeliness in relation to target thresholds and KPIs.
• Contribute to operational research outputs that align with PLOS’s mission.
• Previous experience in peer-reviewed scholarly publishing.
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
• A growth mindset coupled with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
• Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude in customer service.
• Capable of constructively engaging with vendors, authors, editors, customers, and colleagues from diverse international backgrounds.
• Proficient in Excel and Word, with knowledge of file types and file conversions.
• Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
• Skilled in setting priorities and working independently.
• Demonstrates high standards of professionalism in the workplace.
• Welcomes change with a constructive attitude.
• Possesses an interest in science and advancing scientific knowledge.
• Holds a university degree or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with peer review and manuscript management database systems; proficiency with Editorial Manager is a plus.
• Knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Salesforce.
• Committed to open science principles.
• Able to remain stationary at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
• Willingness to undertake some domestic and international travel as required.
