This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee and execute regular payroll cycles for employees located in Canada and the United States.
• Assess, confirm, and process payroll modifications, including new hires, terminations, changes in compensation, bonuses, deductions, benefits, and employee updates.
• Import and reconcile timecard and timekeeping information, addressing any discrepancies.
• Investigate and resolve employee payroll inquiries while providing support to HR with payroll-related questions.
• Manage vacation, sick leave, paid time off, leaves of absence, disability, unpaid leaves, returns from leave, final pay, and vacation payouts.
• Prepare and manage Records of Employment and necessary Canadian payroll documentation.
• Calculate and remit payroll taxes, statutory deductions, and employer contributions.
• Prepare payroll tax filings, reconciliations, government reporting, and year-end reports, including T4s, RL-1s, and W-2s.
• Generate payroll reports and documentation for Finance, Human Resources, audits, and internal stakeholders.
• Uphold payroll controls and maintain confidentiality.
• Assist with payroll-related account reconciliations and the implementation or transition of HR, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
• Collaborate with external payroll providers, government agencies, benefits providers, and other partners.
• A minimum of 3 years of direct payroll experience in Quebec, preferably with exposure to both Canadian and U.S. payroll systems.
• Proficient in both spoken and written French and English.
• Comprehensive understanding of Quebec payroll practices, taxation, statutory deductions, year-end processing, and payroll compliance.
• Experience in processing payroll using Desjardins / Employer D.
• Knowledge of U.S. payroll practices, including payroll taxes, deductions, and year-end requirements.
• Familiarity with timekeeping systems and the import and reconciliation of timecards.
• Background in managing vacation, leaves of absence, terminations, and other employee lifecycle changes from a payroll perspective.
• Previous involvement in supporting a payroll or HRIS implementation, conversion, or system transition is regarded as a significant advantage.
• Experience in assisting with payroll audits and generating payroll reconciliations and reports.
• Strong Excel capabilities and comfort with handling payroll data.
