This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Execute patient accounting tasks at a professional level with a significant degree of independence.
• Manage responsibilities related to billing, collections, credits, and customer service.
• Adhere to ethical billing practices along with established patient accounting policies and procedures.
• Deliver outstanding customer service by employing the AIDET framework.
• Complete assigned special projects and reports as required.
• Stay informed about updates from insurance companies as well as federal and state regulations.
• Review, modify, and submit claims accurately.
• Follow up on denied claims and resubmit them until they are resolved.
• Address billing inquiries from patients, guarantors, families, attorneys, and third-party payers.
• Conduct thorough discussions with patients and relay pertinent information to billers, Patient Financial Advocates, and other departments.
• Calculate outstanding patient balances and set up payment plans or alternative arrangements.
• Reach out to patients concerning outstanding balances, financial assistance options, and payment plans.
• Prepare and submit requests for insurance and self-pay refunds.
• Follow up with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, workers’ compensation, and commercial payers regarding refunds.
• Assist walk-in customers and callers with inquiries related to billing, financial assistance, and payment processing.
• Oversee daily cash drawer management, reconciliations, and deposits across multiple locations.
• Collaborate with case management to secure patient valuables.
• Sort and distribute team correspondence.
• Carry out all other assigned responsibilities.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital, medical office, or clinical setting in healthcare is preferred.
• Previous education or experience in medical billing, or graduation/certification from a medical office program is desirable.
• Must possess or be able to acquire and maintain a solid understanding of commercial, federal, and state payer requirements.
• Strong telephone communication skills and ability to handle business transactions, including dealing with upset patients.
• Proficient in working with computerized systems.
• Basic clerical and interpersonal skills are necessary.
• Typing speed of 40 words per minute is required.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow both oral and written instructions.
• Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel is essential.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service abilities are required.
