Patient Financial Advocate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Assist patients in understanding their financial obligations for services that are either uninsured or not covered by insurance.

• Generate cost estimates for various services.

• Solicit deposits amounting to half of the estimated service costs.

• Discuss eligibility for the Cleveland Clinic Financial Assistance Programs.

• Advise patients and parties responsible for payments about their payment obligations and available options.

• Guide patients on their insurance benefits and suggest alternative payment methods and financial aid.

• Clarify financial responsibilities, payment choices, and collection processes.

• Engage with insurance companies or other sources to advocate on behalf of patients.

• Initiate the collection of prepayments and conduct follow-ups to enhance collection efforts.

• Identify and resolve issues related to registration, financial clearance, insurance authorization, billing, explanations of benefits, provider-based billing, government requirements, HCAP/FAP policies, MyAccount, and collections.

• Update and accurately record information in the designated computer system.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED along with three years of experience in a customer-facing role involving direct interaction, or an Associate’s Degree with two years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with one year of experience.

• Candidates must be residents of the Northeast Ohio area.

• Strong communication skills to convey and receive precise information.

• Capability to work in a stationary position for extended durations.

• Ability to handle physical records or use a computer and other office equipment.

• In certain locations, ability to travel within the hospital system may be required.

• In some locations, the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. is necessary.

• Adhere to standard precautions by using personal protective equipment as needed.

• Must comply with the annual influenza prevention program, including vaccination or an approved exemption.

• Employment offers are contingent upon passing controlled-substance testing.
