Patient Financial Advocate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Assist patients in understanding their financial obligations when they lack insurance or when their insurance is not accepted at Cleveland Clinic.

• Prepare estimates for service costs.

• Request deposits amounting to half of the estimated service costs.

• Discuss eligibility for government programs or Cleveland Clinic Financial Assistance Programs.

• Advise patients and their financial guarantors on payment responsibilities and available options.

• Counsel patients on insurance benefits and suggest alternative payment methods and financial aid.

• Clarify financial obligations, payment options, and procedures for collections.

• Communicate with insurance companies or other sources to advocate on behalf of patients.

• Initiate and follow up on prepayment collections to enhance recovery rates.

• Identify and resolve issues related to registration, financial clearance, insurance authorization, billing, explanations of benefits, provider-based billing, governmental regulations, HCAP/FAP policies, MyAccount, and collections.

• Accurately update and document information in the designated computer system.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED with three years of experience in a customer-facing role involving in-person or phone interactions, OR an Associate’s Degree with two years of experience, OR a Bachelor’s Degree with one year of experience.

• Strong critical thinking abilities and sound judgment.

• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment and respond appropriately.

• Preferred experience in banking.

• Preferred experience in collections.

• Experience meeting productivity targets, including case volume and collection metrics, is preferred.

• Proficient in operating CRT/PC and other office equipment.

• Ability to remain seated for extended periods, with normal or corrected vision and adequate manual dexterity.

• Must live in Ohio and be within approximately two hours of a Cleveland Clinic location.

• Must adhere to the annual influenza prevention program, including vaccination or obtaining an approved exemption.
