This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +9 more states.
• Act as a field-based specialist for patient access and reimbursement focused on infused and specialty therapies.
• Provide assistance to patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers regarding insurance benefits, prior authorization requirements, and reimbursement processes.
• Identify and address coverage inquiries, prior authorization obstacles, and denied claims.
• Deliver education on coding, billing, coverage, and financial assistance programs.
• Foster relationships with patients and caregivers through phone, virtual, and in-person interactions.
• Obtain written or electronic patient HIPAA authorization within the designated area.
• Evaluate patient needs and offer access-supporting education and resources.
• Inform physician offices, care sites, and infusion centers about coverage pathways and reimbursement processes.
• Examine access challenges before and after infusion procedures.
• Assist in reviewing denied claims and determining potential next steps.
• Elevate complex or systemic reimbursement issues to internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Case Management, and Site of Care teams.
• Coordinate with both internal and external partners to provide suitable patient-access resources.
• Convey field insights about payer policies and reimbursement obstacles.
• Comply with company policies, compliance guidelines, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
• Ensure adherence to HIPAA privacy standards.
• Report adverse events and product complaints through pharmacovigilance procedures.
• Keep accurate records in Amgen’s internal system.
• Doctorate degree OR Master’s degree with 2 years of experience in patient services and/or access and reimbursement OR Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of experience OR Associate’s degree with 8 years of experience OR High school diploma/GED with 10 years of experience in patient services and/or access and reimbursement (Basic Qualifications - Level 5).
• Doctorate degree with 2 years of experience OR Master's degree with 4 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree with 6 years of experience in patient services and/or access and reimbursement (Basic Qualifications - Level 6).
• Experience in supporting buy-and-bill or infused pharmaceutical therapies.
• Background in rare diseases or orphan drugs.
• Clinical expertise, such as nursing or allied health.
• Knowledge of reimbursement processes including prior authorization, appeals, and management of denied claims.
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and FDA compliance requirements.
• Understanding of internal and OIG compliance guidelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to manage complex patient situations and overcome access barriers.
• Experience working within cross-functional field teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM, AI, and relevant systems.
• Knowledge of access and reimbursement protocols.
• Understanding of prior authorization processes.
• Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement frameworks.
• Awareness of coding and billing practices.
• Knowledge of patient support programs.
• Understanding of compliance and privacy standards.
• Ability to learn quickly.
• Quality decision-making skills.
• Engagement with stakeholders effectively.
• Capacity to respond promptly to urgent access needs to avoid treatment delays or lapses.
• Ability to function effectively in matrix field environments.
