This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Support house counsel with pre-trial activities.
• Draft responses, motions, briefs, pleadings, appeals, letters, and various legal documents.
• Perform legal research and collect information for claim cases.
• Prepare and reply to discovery requests, which include interrogatories, requests for admissions, and document inspections.
• Communicate with clients, attorneys, claims personnel, and other parties about case updates and legal procedures.
• Secure extensions and ensure that objections and responses are submitted promptly and accurately.
• File pleadings, prepare affidavits of documents, and manage digital case files.
• Create administrative reports, such as initial opinions, discovery summaries, medical record summaries, and pre- and post-trial reports.
• Assist attorneys with trial readiness, including preparing exhibits, trial books, motions in limine, expert witness lists, and statements of the case.
• Research statutes, judicial rulings, legal articles, depositions, legal codes, case law, vehicle valuations, medical treatment, aerial maps, and policy language.
• Investigate facts and causes of action.
• Support insureds in Small Claims cases by drafting trial briefs, prepping insureds for trial, attending trials, and defending the company when named.
• Collect and assess file evidence and prepare for hearings.
• Manage and adjust priorities to complete assignments within deadlines.
• Completion of a paralegal program accredited by the American Bar Association; or a qualifying postsecondary paralegal/legal-course credential; or a BA/advanced degree with relevant law-related experience and attorney declaration; or a high school diploma/GED with applicable law-related experience and attorney declaration.
• Minimum of 0-2 years of experience as an insurance defense paralegal and/or equivalent experience in insurance defense litigation.
• Basic understanding of legal principles, terminology, and procedures.
• Written communication skills to draft legal documents that support and respond to discovery, depositions, and motions.
• Capability to proofread and edit documents for precision.
• Ability to operate effectively in a paperless environment.
• Proficient in effective correspondence with clients, attorneys, and other parties involved.
• Knowledgeable and skilled in word processing and case management software.
• Completion of 4 hours of continuing education or the necessary hours of education in accordance with state regulations.
