Paleontologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Montana.

📋 Description

• Conduct paleontological fieldwork across the Western United States.

• Provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils at the genus or species level.

• Execute and assist in field monitoring operations.

• Generate clear technical writing and research documentation.

• Oversee the management of paleontological data.

• Travel throughout the Western U.S. for fieldwork activities.

• Lead the field recovery of fossil specimens.

• Collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or proven equivalent experience and/or education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical reporting.

• Possession of a valid driver's license.

• Capability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in line with company policy.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Preferred qualifications include an M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology.

• Preferred experience of 4 or more years in paleontology.

• Strong comprehension of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

• Knowledge of the regional geology of the Western U.S.

• Ability to lead the field recovery of fossil specimens.

• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Proficient in reading topographic, geological, and project maps.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.

• Capability to walk or trek over uneven terrain for extended distances in extreme weather conditions for long durations.
