Packaging Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assist in or take the lead on the design, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing lines that focus on consumer-product packaging operations.

• Act as a member of the packaging team on intricate, fully integrated projects throughout the FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning Support phases.

• Aid the technical lead in designing and integrating packaging systems, which includes conducting line and equipment speed analyses, creating pack-out matrices, block flow and general arrangement layouts, equipment lists, utility demand matrices, and procurement specifications/approvals.

• Create equipment lists, data sheets, block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs.

• Propose alternatives to enhance efficiency and apply independent engineering judgment.

• Oversee the development of scopes of work and generate task estimates and small proposals within your area of expertise.

• Support sales and business development efforts.

• Compose written sequences of operation narratives for equipment, systems, and process controls.

• Help with vendor and contractor bid packages as well as construction packages and bid analysis.

• Travel frequently for projects, customer meetings, annual company gatherings, and training; average travel is between 20% to 40%, with project travel varying by phase.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, industrial, or packaging systems engineering; a focus on packaging systems is preferred.

• Over 5 years of proven professional work experience in Packaging Equipment Systems Engineering or a similar field.

• Background with professional engineering service providers and/or manufacturing in food and beverage, life sciences, CPG, pharmaceuticals, or related sectors is advantageous.

• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

• Proficiency in MS Office is required.

• Advanced skills in Excel are a plus.

• Experience with 2D CAD is beneficial.

• Experience in large capital project engineering/management, specifically in detailed packaging system design, ideally for food and beverage processing lines or similar transferable experience.

• A thorough understanding of automation control systems, including PLC, HMI, and VFDs, is preferable.

• Capability to work collaboratively with both internal and external teams.

• Ability to independently assess processing operations and recommend solutions that improve ROI and productivity.

• Competence to carry out engineering tasks independently with minimal supervision.

• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
