Outpatient Trainer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide onboarding training for newly hired outpatient coders as well as refresher sessions for experienced coders.

• Create and update training materials and modules related to medical coding and billing, covering topics such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, E/M coding, Business of Medicine, edit resolution, and revenue cycle concepts.

• Review coding mistakes and audit patterns to uncover underlying issues and deliver specific training or corrective actions.

• Guide outpatient coders through mentorship, offering coaching and performance assessments.

• Carry out quality assessments pertaining to initial audits and appeals to enhance training feedback and skill reinforcement.

• Spot opportunities beyond typical audit results that could lead to additional recoveries and integrate these insights into training.

• Stay updated on ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.

• Monitor and compile learner performance metrics from quizzes, exams, and assessments.

• Share summarized insights on learner performance during weekly meetings.

• Execute responsibilities in compliance with company policies, information security, and regulatory standards.

• Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.

• Certification as CCS or CPC.

• At least 5 years of coding experience in either professional or hospital settings.

• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10 coding, HCPCS/CPT coding systems, Medicare OPPS, and APC.

• Familiarity with Medicare LCD and NCD.

• Proven skills in facilitating training, including instructor-led, virtual, and blended approaches for adult learners.

• Comprehensive understanding of outpatient clinical coding, encompassing CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and documentation requirements.

• Expertise in applying modifiers in accordance with Medicare and NCCI guidelines.

• Capability to code complex outpatient services, such as interventional radiology, ambulatory surgery, emergency room, and observation services.

• Ability to clearly and practically explain intricate coding guidelines and audit concepts.

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills to engage learners and manage dynamics in virtual group settings.

• Analytical abilities to detect knowledge gaps, recurring mistakes, and training needs based on audit trends.

• Capacity to collaborate with Quality, Audit, and SME partners in a remote work environment.

• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

• Proficient in using virtual meeting platforms, LMS, and MS Teams.

• Required personal computer skills.

• Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.

• A brief coding/auditing assessment may be administered during the interview process.
