This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +6 more states.
• Assign the correct ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for various outpatient visit types.
• Conduct a comprehensive review of medical records and associated documentation to accurately code diagnoses and procedures.
• Utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology to interpret health record documentation.
• Issue physician queries when clarification of documentation is necessary.
• Adhere to Coding Clinic for HCPCS, CPT Assistant, coding conventions, and instructional guidelines.
• Achieve minimum standards for coding productivity and quality, specifically 90% productivity and 95% quality.
• Offer technical expertise to analyze system-related changes and engage in software modifications testing.
• Identify opportunities for enhancing computer-assisted coding (CAC).
• Address NCCI edits utilizing approved hospital modifiers.
• Leverage 3M Encoder resources to ensure precise coding.
• Clearly articulate the rationale behind coding choices when required.
• Function as a coding and reimbursement specialist for complex outpatient scenarios, which include observation stays, same-day surgery, surgery centers, and outpatient-in-a-bed encounters.
• 3-4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare environment.
• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential is mandatory.
• Credentialed by the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).
• Must complete 20-30 continuing education credits every two years to maintain credentials.
• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding, HCPCS, CPT codes, and modifiers.
• Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• 4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting is preferred.
• Candidates must reside in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, or Florida.
