Outpatient Coder II, HB Coding

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Assign the correct ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for various outpatient visit categories.

• Evaluate medical records and existing documentation to accurately code diagnoses and procedures.

• Utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology to interpret health record documentation.

• Issue physician queries for clarification of documentation when necessary.

• Adhere to Coding Clinic for HCPCS, CPT Assistant, coding conventions, and instructional notes with at least 95% precision.

• Fulfill minimum standards for coding productivity and quality, achieving at least 90% productivity and 95% quality.

• Assess system-related changes and engage in software modification testing.

• Spot opportunities for enhancing computer-assisted coding and inform the IT liaison of any system issues.

• Address NCCI edits using approved hospital modifiers.

• Utilize 3M Encoder resources to maintain coding accuracy.

• Provide rationale for coding decisions when required.

• Act as a coding and reimbursement authority for intricate outpatient cases, including observation stays, same-day surgeries, surgery center cases, and outpatient-in-a-bed scenarios.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-4 years of coding experience within an acute healthcare environment.

• Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS.

• Certified by the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).

• Complete 20-30 continuing education credits every two years to maintain credentials.

• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

• Preferred: 4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.

• A criminal-history background check is required upon offer of the position.

• Candidates must reside in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, or Florida.
