Outpatient Coder II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Precisely code and abstract clinical details from medical records.

• Code for Ancillary services, Emergency Department, Outpatient Surgery, Observation, and low-acuity Inpatient encounters.

• Utilize ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes in accordance with federal guidelines and Tenet Coding Quality Standards.

• Input codes into the designated database on a daily basis.

• Examine monitoring reports for accounts pending final diagnosis.

• Address coding edits and CARDS edits.

• Communicate with medical records, hospital business offices, physician offices, hospital staff, physicians, and patients regarding coding inquiries or inconsistencies.

• Support the training of new coders.

• Complete ongoing education and LearnShare lessons.

• Ensure timely coding, uphold confidentiality, maintain HIPAA compliance, and adhere to minimum necessary standards.

• Carry out other related tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• 2–5 years of coding experience in a facility setting.

• Completion of a coding certificate program or an associate or bachelor’s degree in health information management or a related field.

• Proficient in MS Office Suite, electronic medical records, and encoding systems.

• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, CARDS, and coding edit resolution.

• Competence in using computers and telephones.

• Preferred credentials: RHIT, CCS, and/or RHIA.
