OpenBao Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain core functionalities, plugins, storage backends, and secrets engines for OpenBao using Go.

• Collaborate with the Head of OpenBao Development on system architecture, technical RFCs, and feature roadmaps.

• Implement cryptography best practices, ensure memory-management safety, and adhere to secure-by-design principles.

• Evaluate and address vulnerability reports.

• Engage in upstream open-source development, including reviewing pull requests and managing issue triage.

• Work on internal laboratory projects, security tools, and integration prototypes.

• Develop unit, integration, and security tests.

• Collaborate on CI/CD automation, release workflows, and supply-chain security for OpenBao distribution artifacts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in writing production-grade Go code.

• Deep understanding of concurrency, including goroutines and channels.

• Knowledge of interface design, testing suites, and performance profiling.

• Comprehensive understanding of software security fundamentals, including PKI/TLS, cryptography concepts, authentication/authorization models, and API design.

• Intermediate to Senior software engineering experience, typically 3–5+ years in backend systems development.

• Familiarity with Linux primitives, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform/OpenTofu.

• Ability to coordinate work hours with a global team across the USA, NZ, and UK.

• Eligibility to work in the UK or EU.

• Experience with OpenBao or HashiCorp Vault is a plus but not mandatory.

• Previous contributions to open-source Go projects or security tools are advantageous.
