This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +21 more states.
β’ Extract a diverse array of medical data from the EMR and code it according to the data standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons and the NC Central Cancer Registry.
β’ Gather information on medical history, physical examinations, screening details, occupation, and past cancer history.
β’ Document types of diagnostic findings, including dates, results, primary site, cell type, and disease extent.
β’ Log cancer treatment details such as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy.
β’ Capture patient identification information including age, gender, race/ethnicity, birthplace, and residence.
β’ Conduct annual follow-ups on patient status, recurrence, and treatment outcomes.
β’ Engage in continuing education programs.
β’ Implement ICD-10, FORDS, AJCC, and SEER coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient diagnoses and procedures.
β’ Align coding with supporting clinical documentation within the EMR.
β’ Contribute to the development of coding policies and procedures.
β’ Independently investigate and resolve complex coding issues.
β’ Support special projects as needed.
β’ Ensure compliance with state and national data management regulations, departmental standards, and DCI Cancer Committee guidelines.
β’ Carry out other related duties incidental to the described work.
β’ Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist is required.
β’ Preferred: Associate degree in Cancer Registry Management or Health Information Management.
β’ Preferred: At least 2 years of experience as an Oncology Data Specialist or Cancer/Tumor Registrar in a hospital or central cancer registry.
β’ Proficient in Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS), ICD-10 Coding, AJCC TNM, Collaborative Staging, and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) staging, including multiple primary and histology coding.
β’ Comprehensive understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical as well as radiation techniques.
β’ Awareness of new chemotherapy and hormone medications and the ability to apply ICD-10, FORDS, AJCC, and SEER coding guidelines.
β’ Familiarity with Oncology Registry software, Windows-based applications, and EPIC EMR.
β’ Exceptional organizational, investigative, analytical, detail-oriented, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
β’ Capability to meet productivity targets under pressure.
β’ A Commitment Bonus of $7,500 (distributed in 2 equal installments over 12 months - at 6-month intervals).
