Network Engineer – Cloud Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver network operations and support for Varian’s FullScale Infinity Cloud solutions across private, public, and hybrid infrastructures, including network and security.

• Oversee network onboarding for FSIC-designed products while following FSIC configuration standards.

• Maintain an in-depth understanding of Varian’s application suite.

• Set up cloud solutions encompassing monitoring, application access, security, Citrix NetScaler, Citrix ADC, and Palo Alto Networks.

• Configure and support ExpressRoute backbone connections, direct connections, and VPN architecture.

• Manage IP CIDR block allocation and adjust networks, subnets, VLANs, and routes as necessary.

• Verify and respond to events generated by network monitoring tools and Web Application Firewall tools.

• Diagnose issues and identify root causes effectively.

• Collaborate to address network outages and issues affecting customers.

• Contribute to the successful execution of projects.

• Create, update, and finalize documentation.

• Investigate the root causes of incidents and generate follow-up reports.

• Work alongside network engineers to enhance operations, security, and workflows.

• Provide exceptional customer service at all times.

• Urgently escalate support requests to vendors, telecommunications carriers, and service providers when necessary.

• Implement network updates, patches, and configuration changes as needed.

• Design network layouts and set up systems for user environments.

• Mentor colleagues when needed.

• Complete assigned Learning Management System courses.

• Offer on-call support as required.

• Operate during North American business hours.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s or preferably Master’s Degree in computer science is required, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

• Knowledge of Varian FSIC, TPASS, and CloudPlanner infrastructure products.

• Strong familiarity with Varian’s suite of applications.

• Extensive experience in supporting and managing networks in enterprise public, private, and hybrid cloud settings, ideally with large multi-subscription Microsoft Azure estates.

• Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure networking, including VNets, subnets, VNet peering, UDRs, NSGs, network interfaces, NAT, DNS, and cross-subscription connectivity.

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, addressing, subnetting, CIDR, DNS, LDAP/LDAPS, Kerberos, RPC, routing, and return-path validation.

• Proficient in routing and switching, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, STP, Layer 2/3 concepts, route propagation, path selection, redundancy, convergence, and failover.

• Hands-on experience in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Azure ExpressRoute connectivity.

• Practical experience in designing and troubleshooting site-to-site IPsec VPNs.

• Advanced hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and PAN-OS lifecycle management.

• Familiarity with centralized next-hop routing through virtual firewalls.

• Hands-on experience with Citrix NetScaler/ADC.

• Experience in validating end-to-end application delivery.

• Strong knowledge of network security, including firewall policies, IDS/IPS, ACLs, PKI, SSL/TLS, certificate chains, URL filtering, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening.

• Advanced skills in network performance and root-cause analysis using tools such as Wireshark, firewall captures, tcpdump, iperf, or SolarWinds.

• Experience troubleshooting business-critical and highly available applications.

• Familiarity with network monitoring, observability, and SIEM integrations, including Microsoft Sentinel.

• Experience implementing and troubleshooting Active Directory integrations and one-way domain trusts.

• Experience collaborating with customer IT teams, telecommunications carriers, exchange/service providers, and technology vendors.

• Ability to develop connectivity and ACL documentation tailored to customer needs.

• Experience in creating and maintaining documentation related to cloud and network architecture, including Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart diagrams, as-built documents, operating procedures, implementation notes, configuration templates, troubleshooting guides, upgrade-validation procedures, and change-validation or rollback steps.

• Experience reviewing vulnerability findings and validating network software upgrades, patches, content updates, configuration changes, and policy updates.

• Strong background in incident, problem, and change management.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven ability to act as a senior technical escalation resource and mentor colleagues.

• Capability to provide on-call support as required and work North American business hours.

• Desired: Azure Network Engineer Associate certification.

• Desired: Azure Administrator Associate certification.

• Desired: Palo Alto Networks certification or equivalent advanced PAN-OS experience.

• Desired: Experience with Citrix NetScaler/ADC and Citrix ADM/Insights.

• Desired: Background with telecommunications and exchange providers.

• Desired: Experience with non-standard hybrid network solutions.

• Desired: Experience with Azure Service Bus, Azure App Service, and application connectivity across subscriptions.

• Desired: Familiarity with Microsoft Sentinel, Qualys, SIEM, syslog, and security-tool integrations.

• Desired: Knowledge of enterprise certificate authorities such as DigiCert.

• Desired: Experience with Citrix XenApp, StoreFront, Virtual Delivery Agents, RDP, and associated application-delivery dependencies.

• Desired: Understanding of DICOM and HL7 standards.

• Desired: Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Windows Server, Hyper-V, VMware/vSphere, and systems-management concepts.

• Desired: Advanced skills in Azure IaaS administration and automation or scripting using PowerShell, JSON, ARM templates, APIs, or Python.
