This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Provide coverage of news and current events in Cape Breton, with a particular emphasis on the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and its neighboring communities.

• Report breaking news and produce in-depth features and explanatory articles.

• Create and write content centered around CBRM for print, web, and mobile audiences.

• Adapt content to meet the diverse requirements of print, web, and mobile formats.

• Generate and develop concepts for enterprise stories and investigative initiatives.

• Build and nurture sources while establishing expertise to break news and influence the news agenda.

• Submit video clips for digital platforms.

• Collaborate with digital teams to design interactive maps, graphics, searchable databases, and other multimedia components.

• Write stories for various platforms, frequently under tight deadlines.

• Explore innovative storytelling methods and engage readers effectively.

⛳️ Requirements

• Prior experience with a news organization.

• Proficiency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism, and social media.

• Ability to work efficiently and independently, manage multiple deadlines, and make swift decisions.

• Knowledge of data journalism and investigative reporting is a plus.

• Strong awareness of issues, industries, and characteristics unique to Cape Breton.

• Capability to work remotely as part of a newsroom team.

• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

• Submission of a cover letter, résumé, three samples of published work (if available), and at least two signed references.
