This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma.

📋 Description

• Assess the current MRMS Hydromet/QPE codebase and formulate recommendations and strategies for the upcoming VCP-Agnostic version of MRMS.

• Provide advice on and, when necessary, modify the existing C++ code or contribute new code to enhance the MRMS Hydromet/QPE processing software suite.

• Offer expert technical direction to project personnel regarding software design, coding methodologies, and technical risks.

• Generate technical documentation, which includes schematics, code repositories, and testing reports.

• Compile quarterly status reports.

• Assist NSSL and the National Weather Service with operational precipitation-estimation products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field.

• Over 4 years of professional and/or academic experience.

• Proficiency in C++ is required.

• Knowledge of Perl, Python, and Bash is preferred.

• Experience in software development using Git.

• Proven ability to guide technical teams on software architecture, coding strategies, and development risks.

• Strong communication abilities, including technical writing skills.

• Capability to collaborate effectively within a technical team.

• Familiarity with meteorological datasets, particularly output from weather radar systems, is preferred.

• Completion of an online IT security awareness course is mandatory within one week of starting employment.

• Candidates who are foreign nationals must undergo an export control review and require CO/COR approval prior to consideration.
