Mortgage Underwriter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Assess and evaluate residential mortgage applications along with supporting documents, such as credit reports, income verification, asset documentation, and appraisals.

• Approve applications within the defined limits of lending authority.

• Recognize and address risks while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.

• Oversee the mortgage application process from initiation to completion in a high-volume, performance-oriented setting.

• Guarantee that applications are finalized swiftly and that transactions conclude as scheduled.

• Serve as an engaged partner to mortgage brokers and offer innovative solutions.

• Efficiently pinpoint any missing information and resolve intricate issues.

• Keep loan files organized, complete, and compliant with all requirements.

• Suggest enhancements to processes and assist team members.

• Play a role in the ongoing enhancement of the mortgage customer experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting.

• Bilingual proficiency in French and English.

• Previous experience as an underwriter at a credit union, monoline lender, or similar institutional setting is advantageous.

• Background in A lending; experience with B lending or commercial lending is a plus.

• Capability to analyze residential mortgage applications and their supporting documentation.

• Strong credit assessment skills.

• Proficient in identifying and managing risks.

• Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies.

• Skills to effectively manage a pipeline in a high-volume atmosphere.

• Capacity to mentor others and collaborate with different departments.

• Successful completion of background, criminal record, and reference checks.
