Mission Operations Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Install Shift5 hardware, sensors, networking equipment, and cabling on military and commercial platforms in various environments such as industrial, maritime, rail, or defense.

• Configure, install, and update software applications, Windows/Linux operating systems, and system images across customer hardware.

• Carry out installation procedures, startup checklists, and operational verification tests to guarantee system readiness and adherence to Shift5 quality and safety standards.

• Travel and deploy to the field with customers and Mission Deployment Engineers, taking the lead on-site for integration, upgrades, and preventative maintenance activities.

• Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, network, and installation issues on-site, escalating more complex technical challenges to Mission Deployment Engineers.

• Document installation activities, equipment configurations, and test outcomes; prepare and maintain deployment kits, tools, and equipment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in supporting technical equipment, field installations, electronics, networking, IT systems, or similar hands-on technologies (1–4 years).

• Proficient with common hand tools, basic electronic test equipment, Windows operating systems, and basic Ethernet/IP-based communications.

• Strong mechanical aptitude, keen attention to detail, and the ability to interpret basic technical procedures.

• Hands-on experience in technical troubleshooting, hardware assembly, software installation, and system testing in field environments.

• Comfortable operating in dynamic, fast-paced environments, with the capability to lift up to 50 pounds in industrial, maritime, rail, or military settings.

• Associate degree, technical certification, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience required.

• Highly self-motivated with a strong inclination for action, proactive problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and occasionally internationally.

• Active U.S. security clearance, or the capacity and willingness to obtain one.

• Familiarity with Surface Navy vessels is advantageous, particularly with LCS experience.

• Military technical experience in electronics, communications, aviation, maritime, maintenance, IT, or related defense sectors.

• Experience supporting DoD, aerospace, maritime, rail, or industrial clients.

• Knowledge of Linux operating systems, multimeters, logic analyzers, wiring diagrams, and installation drawings.

• Experience installing ruggedized computers, sensors, or networking equipment on operational platforms.
