This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +7 more states.
• Formulate and implement the underwriting and sales strategy for a designated region.
• Drive regional business development, manage underwriting execution, and oversee portfolio management.
• Collaborate with Distribution, Product Management, Marketing, and Underwriting Operations to meet territory goals.
• Direct the regional underwriting and sales team, set priorities, track performance, and ensure objectives for new business, renewals, pricing, and profitability are met.
• Guide underwriting managers and teams to attain productivity, service, and portfolio outcomes while upholding underwriting standards.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, authority, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance benchmarks.
• Mentor and nurture leaders through clear expectations, coaching, accountability, and skill development.
• Leverage portfolio analytics, market insights, and business acumen to identify trends, prioritize opportunities, allocate resources, and inform decisions.
• Establish and oversee underwriting authority based on technical expertise, experience, judgment, and performance metrics.
• Facilitate significant new business and renewal opportunities by engaging with agencies and brokers, conducting sales presentations, formulating account strategies, and negotiating terms.
• Track financial and operational objectives and devise action plans to enhance production, retention, pricing, profitability, and portfolio performance.
• Take ownership of regional talent management, including recruitment, succession planning, performance and compensation management, employee development, career coaching, workload management, and resolving employee issues.
• Oversee regional expenditures, spending forecasts, and provide explanations for variances.
• Keep an eye on commercial insurance market conditions, competitor behavior, industry trends, and jurisdictional changes, translating these insights into regional strategies.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in Commercial Underwriting.
• At least 5 years of experience in direct people management.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
• A Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
• Eligible to work remotely in AZ, CO, FL, GA, MN, IA, TN, KY, or at Headquarters.
• Holds one or more of the following certifications: Certified Insurance Counselor; Certified Risk Manager.
• CPCU designation is preferred.
• AU designation is preferred.
• Expertise in Commercial Lines Underwriting.
• Proficient in Underwriting Strategy.
• Experience in Business Development and Sales Management.
• Skilled in Data Analysis & Reporting.
• Knowledge of Agency Management.
• Competence in Pricing Analytics.
• Familiarity with Contract Management.
• Experience with Predictive Modeling.
• Proficient in Customer Relationship Management.
• Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance.
• Experience in Financial Management.
