Metadata and Catalog Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Execute and oversee metadata management, business glossary development, data cataloging, and data lineage functionalities.

• Set up, manage, and maintain platforms for data governance, cataloging, metadata, and lineage.

• Define metadata standards, structures, naming conventions, and management protocols.

• Create and sustain enterprise and domain-specific business glossaries.

• Gather and uphold business, technical, operational, and governance metadata.

• Develop connections among data assets, business terminology, data elements, systems, applications, reports, and data products.

• Implement and sustain comprehensive data lineage across essential data assets and workflows.

• Integrate metadata from source systems, databases, data warehouses, data lakes, APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, BI platforms, and various data environments.

• Configure capabilities for metadata ingestion, scanning, classification, tagging, and discovery.

• Facilitate automated metadata harvesting and synchronization.

• Establish workflows for data ownership, stewardship, certification, and approvals.

• Incorporate new data sources and systems into the data catalog.

• Set up integrations with governance, data quality, and IT systems.

• Ensure that metadata accurately conveys definitions, classifications, ownership, sensitivity, retention, and governance attributes.

• Collaborate with Data Governance Analysts, Data Quality Analysts, Data Architects, Data Stewards, and business stakeholders.

• Aid in data discovery and self-service access for authorized users.

• Create dashboards and reports to assess catalog adoption, metadata completeness, stewardship, lineage coverage, and governance maturity.

• Monitor metadata quality and pinpoint gaps, inconsistencies, and outdated metadata.

• Support integration across catalog, governance, data quality, security, privacy, and enterprise architecture functions.

• Produce documentation, procedures, and operational standards.

• Offer training and assistance to Data Stewards and business users.

• Continuously assess and enhance metadata management and data discovery capabilities.

• Contribute to the Case Management Modernization Program in support of the Administrative Office of the US Courts and over 204 federal courts.


⛳️ Requirements

• MA/MS degree.

• 5+ years of overall experience in information systems.

• 7+ years of specialized experience.

• Proven experience in supporting enterprise data governance initiatives.

• Experience in translating governance policies into actionable operational processes in delivery settings.

• Experience governing high-sensitivity or regulated data with clear compliance requirements.

• Knowledge of access management and the implementation of privacy requirements.

• Experience collaborating with security, governance, and engineering teams to enable compliant data sharing.

• Proficient in process mapping, documentation, and business analysis.

• Exceptional facilitation and stakeholder management abilities across business and technical teams.

• Capability to translate policy and governance necessities into executable operational procedures.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the development of training and change management materials.

• Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.

• Proficiencies in Data Lake, Data Warehousing, Enterprise Data, and Metadata Management.

• No clearance required.

• US citizenship is not mandatory.

• Preferred: experience in Federal Government or regulated sectors.

• Preferred: experience with enterprise data governance/catalog platforms.

• Preferred: familiarity with enterprise data governance frameworks and operational models.

• Preferred: data management certification.
