Medical Science Liaison, Senior Medical Science Liaison – Ophthalmology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Act as a highly skilled, field-based scientific authority in ophthalmology, focusing on retinal diseases and neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).

• Serve as the main medical contact within the designated geographic area.

• Engage with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders (KOLs), scientific communities, professional societies, and organizations in compliant scientific discussions.

• Maintain up-to-date clinical and scientific knowledge in ophthalmology and the standards of care for wet AMD.

• Conduct pre-launch KOL assessments and profile leading accounts/institutions.

• Create and monitor strategic plans for KOL engagement while fostering collaborative relationships.

• Provide clinical and scientific information to health systems, population health leaders, medical quality professionals, and healthcare providers.

• Deliver clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare providers, health systems, medical groups, leadership, community organizations, and advocacy groups.

• Share insights on market trends, clinical intelligence, patient care pathways, and treatment protocols.

• Collaborate with Medical Affairs leadership, clients, thought leaders, R&D, implementation teams, and commercial partners.

• Attend and report on educational events, symposia, scientific and clinical meetings, CME events, congresses, and medical gatherings.

• Manage time and travel expense budgets related to scientific exchange and clinical education.

• Address clinical program inquiries and unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information, including documentation.

• Support clinical trial sites and investigators, serving as a resource for investigator-initiated trial proposals.

• Provide internal teams with KOL feedback, medical support, clinical insights, and training.

• Represent the client at Medical Affairs scientific booths and related initiatives.

• Comply with corporate SOPs and legal and regulatory guidelines governing scientific interactions.

• Oversee the assigned territory and contribute to organizational objectives beyond the geographic area.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree is required, such as OD, PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN, DNP, or NP/PA.

• MSL: A minimum of 2 years of prior MSL experience.

• MSL: At least 1 year of experience in ophthalmology with knowledge of retinal disorders.

• Senior MSL: A minimum of 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

• Senior MSL: At least 3 years of experience in rare diseases and ophthalmology.

• Ability to interpret and present scientific data effectively to engage KOLs.

• Familiarity with standards of care for ophthalmology and retinal disorders.

• Capability to present intricate scientific, value, and evidence data to payors and/or formulary committees.

• Strongly desired: working knowledge of ophthalmology screening and wellness programs.

• Familiarity with institutions and clinics in the designated regions.

• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Capability to work autonomously and manage time efficiently.

• Willingness to travel frequently (70%) with overnight stays.

• Compliance with corporate SOPs and legal and regulatory standards.

• Must support and adhere to the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
