Medical Science Liaison, Ophthalmology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders in the fields of optometry and ophthalmology within the designated territory.

• Act as the main point of contact for Medical Affairs, facilitating scientific exchange and educational interactions both virtually and in-person.

• Collect actionable insights from the field and relay findings to internal stakeholders to influence medical strategy and initiatives.

• Provide disease state and scientific education to healthcare providers and their practice staff.

• Assist with educational initiatives in optometry schools and ophthalmology residency programs.

• Offer guidance on investigator-initiated research processes and available medical information resources.

• Identify and propose expert faculty and advisors for educational programs, advisory boards, publications, clinical research, and other Medical Affairs activities.

• Create and implement KOL engagement plans, and participate in local, regional, and national scientific conferences.

• Work alongside professional societies and pertinent healthcare organizations within the designated territory.

• Present scientific and clinical data to healthcare stakeholders, including payer audiences.

• Provide leadership and expertise to Medical Affairs projects and cross-functional initiatives.

• Contribute to ongoing improvement efforts related to training, insights generation, and field medical operations.

• Lead and facilitate scientific discussions and educational programs centered on disease awareness and patient care.

• Collaborate with Clinical Development, Commercial, Medical Information, and Training teams.

• Offer support for clinical development activities and study-related initiatives as needed.

• Maintain territory plans, KOL profiles, CRM documentation, and budget accountability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry (OD), MD, PharmD, or PhD with specialization in ophthalmology, optometry, or eye care.

• Over 2 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison in ophthalmology, optometry, or a related specialty.

• Alternative qualifications may include extensive clinical eye care experience combined with industry exposure.

• Senior-level positions may be available for candidates with more than 4 years of prior MSL experience.

• Strong skills in scientific communication and presentation.

• Excellent relationship-building capabilities and emotional intelligence.

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency in using CRM platforms, Microsoft Office, and other field-based tools.

• Proven ability to gather, analyze, and convey actionable insights.

• Strong skills in collaboration and cross-functional partnership.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Candidates should reside within the territory, preferably with convenient access to a major airport.
