Medical Science Liaison, Ophthalmology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the National Director of Field Medical in the capacity of a field-based scientific expert.

• Establish and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders in optometry and ophthalmology throughout the designated territory.

• Act as the primary Medical Affairs contact for scientific dialogue and educational engagement with healthcare professionals via virtual and in-person meetings.

• Collect actionable insights from the field and relay findings to internal stakeholders to inform medical strategy and initiatives.

• Provide education on disease states and scientific topics to healthcare providers and practice personnel.

• Assist with educational initiatives in optometry schools and ophthalmology residency programs.

• Offer guidance on investigator-initiated research processes and medical information resources.

• Identify and recommend expert faculty and advisors for educational initiatives, advisory boards, publications, clinical research, and Medical Affairs efforts.

• Develop and implement KOL engagement strategies while participating in local, regional, and national scientific conferences.

• Collaborate with professional societies and pertinent healthcare organizations within the territory.

• Present scientific and clinical data to healthcare stakeholders, inclusive of payer audiences.

• Contribute leadership and expertise to Medical Affairs projects and cross-departmental initiatives.

• Aid in ongoing enhancement efforts related to training, insights generation, and field medical operations.

• Lead and facilitate scientific discussions and educational programs centered on disease awareness and patient care.

• Work collaboratively with Clinical Development, Commercial, Medical Information, and Training teams.

• Support clinical development activities and study-related projects as necessary.

• Maintain territory plans, KOL profiles, CRM documentation, and budget accountability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry (OD), MD, PharmD, or PhD with specialization in ophthalmology, optometry, or eye care.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison in ophthalmology, optometry, or a related field.

• Alternative qualifications may involve substantial clinical eye care experience coupled with industry exposure.

• Senior-level positions may be available for candidates possessing 4 or more years of prior MSL experience.

• Strong scientific communication and presentation capabilities.

• Excellent relationship-building skills and emotional intelligence.

• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Proficient in using CRM platforms, Microsoft Office, and other field-based tools.

• Proven track record of collecting, analyzing, and conveying actionable insights.

• Strong collaboration and cross-functional partnership abilities.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Candidates should reside within the territory, ideally near a major airport.

• Approximately 60-80% travel is required.
