Medical Coding Specialist – Dermatology, Orthopedics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Perform coding for clinical documentation in dermatology and orthopedics utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes.

• Code procedures related to dermatology, such as biopsies, destructions, Mohs surgery, and excisions.

• Code orthopedic visits and procedures as required.

• Implement specialty-specific and global surgery modifiers in accordance with NCCI edits.

• Validate provider notes and evaluate E/M levels for both office visits and procedures that are heavy in encounters.

• Detect incomplete or unclear documentation and communicate directly with practice managers and physicians.

• Research and address complex coding-related denials from major payers.

• Utilize approved AI tools to create more effective appeals.

• Navigate through client EHR and practice management systems.

• Identify recurring documentation issues and payer trends.

• Suggest operational enhancements to minimize revenue delays.

• Assist account managers across various specialties and acquire knowledge of new specialties and workflows as the company expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess an active AAPC credential.

• 1 to 2 years of experience in medical coding.

• Strong expertise in dermatology.

• Experience in orthopedic coding is highly advantageous.

• Proficient in coding using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II.

• Familiarity with specialty-specific and global surgery modifiers 25, 59, XE, XS, XP, and XU.

• Understanding of NCCI edits.

• Capability to validate provider notes against current E/M leveling guidelines.

• Experience in researching and resolving complex coding-related denials.

• Knowledge of major payers.

• Proficient in using ModMed (EMA), EZDERM, Nextech, eCW, and other EHR and practice management systems.

• Ability to utilize or actively learn AI tools for work purposes.

• Capacity to work independently in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
