Medical Coding Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide operational leadership for coding functions across designated specialties and service lines.

• Ensure coding accuracy, productivity, and adherence to relevant regulatory and payer requirements.

• Lead, mentor, and develop coding personnel (both in-house and outsourced resources).

• Facilitate recruiting, onboarding, training, and competency validation for new and existing team members.

• Oversee daily coding operations to guarantee timely completion of encounters and consistent application of coding standards.

• Create and sustain workflows that enhance productivity, turnaround time, and coding accuracy across specialties.

• Monitor team key performance indicators (KPIs), including coding quality scores, productivity, and turnaround times.

• Collaborate with billing and revenue cycle leadership to promote clean claim submissions and minimize coding-related denials.

• Supervise internal and external coding audits, ensuring prompt responses, documentation support, and completion of corrective actions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional medical coding experience across one or more specialties.

• Preferred 3-4 years of experience in people leadership.

• Proficient knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier application relevant to the organization's services.

• Strong grasp of coding compliance principles and audit readiness expectations.

• Proven ability to manage workflows, monitor metrics, and drive continuous improvement.

• Proficient in EHR and coding/billing systems, encoder tools, and productivity tracking platforms.

• Preferred active coding credential (e.g., CPC, CCS, CIC) based on specialty and service mix.

• Experience in managing coding operations within a multi-specialty or service-based environment.

• Cross-functional experience collaborating with billing and accounts receivable teams to address denials and documentation-related revenue risks.
