Medical Billing and Coding Training Program

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Engage in around 20 weeks of online classroom training.

• Participate in approximately 19 weeks of online internship/remote hands-on training.

• Acquire knowledge in health insurance, healthcare environments, medical coding, reimbursement, billing, legal and regulatory matters, and claim processing.

• Prepare for the AAPC CPB and CPC certification examinations.

• Deliver coding services that adhere to payer requirements, organizational policies, and coding standards.

• Extract diagnoses and procedures from patient medical records and online patient data.

• Review patient encounters and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Conduct research on provider or office information using Epic in-basket as needed.

• Assist with research on denied claims.

• Achieve assigned productivity targets.

• Offer accounts receivable services and enhance reimbursement rates.

• Process claims for Medicare, Medicaid, self-pay/uninsured, and commercial insurance.

• Oversee receivables, track claim status, resubmit overdue claims, file corrected claims or appeals, and escalate seriously overdue accounts.

• Record patient payments, electronic remittances, and paper EOBs.

• Rectify claim and charge discrepancies and resolve credit balances.

• Respond to calls from patients and responsible parties regarding account balances.

• Ensure the confidentiality of patient and organizational data in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

• Execute billing, data entry, computer operations, and additional assigned tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates MUST RESIDE in the State of California.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident/Green Card holder; non-citizens or visa holders are not eligible.

• Must successfully pass a national criminal background check.

• Must commit to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM, throughout the entire program.

• Bilingual Spanish speakers are preferred but not mandatory.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is advantageous.

• Knowledge of California Billing is preferred but not essential.

• COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory, or an approved medical/religious exemption, prior to program acceptance.

• For on-site internships/externships, candidates must fulfill host-site immunization requirements, which may include influenza, hepatitis B, and MMR vaccinations.

• Tuberculosis testing and drug screening may be required prior to placement.

• Total stipend of $31,200 distributed over approximately 44 weeks.

• Monthly Health Marketplace reimbursement of up to $600 for 44 weeks (participant cost only; some restrictions apply).

• Internet stipend of $35/month for 44 weeks.

• Preparation for AAPC Certified Professional Biller (CPB) and Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certifications.

• Upon successful completion of the program and passing the exam, certification in medical billing and medical coding will be awarded.
