Mechanical Commissioning Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Oversee and guide the mechanical field commissioning team for designated data center and building commissioning initiatives.

• Take charge of hands-on mechanical responsibilities for installation validation, equipment startups, functional performance evaluations, and integrated systems assessments.

• Strategically plan, sequence, and allocate mechanical field commissioning tasks among assigned Commissioning Authorities (CxAs).

• Mentor Mechanical Commissioning Authorities by reviewing their checklists, startup documentation, and testing forms.

• Facilitate L1 factory witness testing and address any findings.

• Conduct L2 mechanical installation verification and pre-startup acceptance assessments.

• Supervise L3 mechanical equipment startups, which include chillers, cooling towers, pumps, hydronic systems, CRAH/CRAC units, and control point verification.

• Lead L4 functional performance testing, encompassing sequence verification, setpoint validation, alarm testing, and fail-mode response evaluation.

• Direct L5 Integrated Systems Testing for mechanical components and validate cross-system interactions.

• Review and authorize commissioning documentation, ensuring timely updates to the program documentation platform.

• Track commissioning status and communicate progress, deficiencies, and schedule risks to the Commissioning Program Manager.

• Manage the resolution of mechanical deficiencies and non-conformances, ensuring all items are closed out.

• Assemble L6 turnover documentation and assist with project closure activities.

• Act as the primary mechanical commissioning contact for the General Contractor (GC), subcontractors, OEM technicians, and the owner's commissioning representative.

• Lead coordination meetings and oversee AHJ inspections and owner witness testing.

• Enforce site safety protocols, supervise and verify Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and halt unsafe practices.

• Plan daily field operations, maintain field logs, submit Issues Log entries within 24 hours, and facilitate turnover to operations.

• Provide technical oversight, manage the onsite project team, exercise field judgment, and mentor junior members of the commissioning team.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

• At least 3 years of experience leading or directing mechanical field commissioning teams.

• Relevant experience in critical infrastructure, including power generation, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, or similar industries.

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, or a relevant technical degree/vocational certification or equivalent practical experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.

• A valid Driver's License is required.

• NFPA 70E Qualified Electrical Worker certification is required or the ability to obtain during onboarding.

• OSHA 30 (Construction) certification is a minimum requirement or the ability to complete during onboarding.

• Proficient in chilled water and condenser water systems, hydronic piping, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.

• Capability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment submittals, and operational sequences.

• Familiarity with CRAH, CRAC, in-row cooling systems, BMS controls, and mechanical alarm structures.

• ACG Commissioning Authority (CxA), BCxP, or an equivalent commissioning credential is preferred.

• CxT (ACG) or BCxP credentials are preferred.

• A Journeyman Electrician license is preferred.

• Manufacturer startup training is preferred.

• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, in extreme temperatures, elevated noise environments, and under limited lighting conditions, using full NFPA 70E PPE.

• Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends during critical testing phases and owner acceptance events.

• Occasionally lift weights of up to 50 lbs.

• Capable of climbing ladders and stairs up to 12 floors.

• A valid driver's license is required.
