This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead a team of writers and editors
• Allocate tasks and oversee the publication timeline
• Manage the publication calendar and story pipeline across various written formats
• Establish deadlines and follow up in case interns do not meet them
• Oversee and update “How-To” documents related to publishing processes
• Conduct weekly editorial meetings
• Participate in Leadership and All-Staff meetings to provide updates
• Assist HR in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new contributors
• Train new editors and writers, setting standards for sourcing, process, and format
• Ensure ONC maintains its nonpartisan stance and branding
• Collaborate with Media & Marketing on joint initiatives
• Focus on developing others rather than solely producing original content
• Experience in writing or editing across various environments: professional, academic, student publications, or news organizations
• Ability to edit for argument and structure, in addition to grammar and style
• Proven experience in coordinating a team to meet deadlines
• Confidence in providing direction and ensuring accountability
• Strong judgment regarding sourcing, attribution, and factual accuracy
• Proven ability to follow through on ongoing commitments
• Submission of a resume and cover letter is required for the application
• Cover letter should be 500 words or fewer
• The cover letter must discuss experience, a time leading or coordinating a team project, availability in the upcoming months, and two proposed changes to ONC’s Editorial Team
