Manager, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Lead and develop a team of up to 10 engineers.

• Ensure every team member comprehends how their contributions align with the engineering vision and benefit partners.

• Foster an inclusive and high-trust culture that reflects Murmuration and engineering values.

• Manage performance proactively with assistance from the director and HR team.

• Engage in candidate evaluation and recruitment processes.

• Take ownership of sprint planning and Scrum ceremonies.

• Facilitate retrospectives aimed at team learning and enhancement.

• Supervise the software development lifecycle for Explorer to maintain a robust, secure, and manageable platform.

• Collaborate with other technical leaders to create project plans.

• Provide technical project management to achieve team objectives.

• Identify process and technical obstacles and suggest solutions.

• Work alongside product management on the Explorer roadmap, prioritization, and scoping.

• Manage multi-month projects and navigate competing priorities.

• Coordinate parallel workstreams and work in conjunction with engineering, product, design, research, data, and partner success teams.

• Clearly communicate updates and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of management experience in a high-performing software engineering team, including performance management and individual development.

• Sufficient technical expertise to review designs, inquire about architecture and trade-offs, and gain the trust of seasoned engineers.

• Hands-on experience with AWS.

• Proven ability to lead delivery amidst ambiguity while maintaining team stability and productivity.

• A history of coaching that creates a multiplier effect.

• Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive, high-trust, and high-performing teams.

• Experience working closely with product management on roadmap, prioritization, and scoping.

• A belief that the process of building is equally important as the end product.

• Familiarity with Voter File Data (preferred).

• Experience with or interest in political data (preferred).

• Background in political tech, civic tech, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations (preferred).
