This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Ensure the timely, accurate, and compliant delivery of payroll across a designated portfolio of countries or regions.
• Lead a team of payroll specialists, providing support during complex operational challenges.
• Convert strategic guidance into clear operational expectations, aligning the team with processes, knowledge, and support.
• Facilitate the resolution of escalated payroll issues while ensuring consistent application of policies.
• Suggest hiring and performance-related decisions.
• Cultivate a high-performing, engaged, psychologically safe, and accountable team.
• Oversee end-to-end payroll delivery for a specific group of countries.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of country-specific payroll requirements.
• Ensure compliance with payroll processes, ensuring they are documented and auditable.
• Manage relationships with external payroll vendors effectively.
• Support global payroll implementations, including new country launches, vendor transitions, and in-housing initiatives.
• Provide market- and country-specific payroll expertise while identifying implementation risks.
• Own payroll outcomes post-launch, ensuring stability following the go-live phase.
• Identify operational risks, recurring issues, and process gaps.
• Drive continuous improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and increase team capacity.
• Support the implementation of new tools, automation, and standardized workflows.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs), service levels, and quality metrics.
• Manage operational support for the service arm, including team performance and engagement in Zendesk.
• Collaborate with People Operations, Finance, Legal, Product, and Service Operations.
• Transform payroll complexity into actionable guidance for stakeholders.
• Communicate risks, delays, and changes that may affect payroll outcomes.
• Proven track record of owning payroll outcomes for a team in regional or multi-country settings.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, providing feedback, and contributing to performance evaluations.
• Comfortable leading investigations and driving operational resolutions.
• Able to clarify and consistently enforce policies and controls.
• Experience in recommending hiring profiles, team adjustments, and performance actions.
• Strong operational judgment, with the ability to balance speed, accuracy, and customer impact.
• Clear and structured communicator, both in writing and verbally, especially effective in asynchronous environments.
• Experience in remote-first or globally distributed teams is highly beneficial.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
