This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage daily accounting operations for Oportun’s loan portfolio and associated debt.

• Ensure that transactions are accurately recorded, completely accounted for, and compliant with relevant accounting standards and company policies.

• Lead the month-end closing process for accounts related to loans and debt.

• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analyses, and other closing activities.

• Supervise, mentor, guide, prioritize, and evaluate the performance of accounting personnel.

• Drive ongoing enhancement of accounting procedures and internal controls.

• Identify opportunities for automation, streamline workflows, enhance data quality, and boost efficiency in closing and reporting.

• Utilize AI-driven tools and emerging technologies while ensuring proper review, governance, and internal controls.

• Collaborate with Finance, Technology, and various business teams on process enhancements, automation initiatives, and scalable accounting practices.

• Support Oportun’s objectives in financial reporting.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• At least 6 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP with the ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting guidelines.

• Experience in accounting activities related to loans, lending, debt, or financial services.

• Capability to lead, coach, develop, and assess accounting professionals.

• Willingness and ability to responsibly utilize AI-driven tools and emerging technologies.

• Experience with internal controls and enhancements to accounting processes.

• Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficient in managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• CPA or progress towards CPA certification is preferred.

• Background in consumer lending, financial services, fintech, banking, or a similar industry is preferred.

• Experience in implementing improvements in accounting processes, workflow automation, or upgrades to financial systems is preferred.

• Familiarity with AI-driven accounting, finance, analytics, or productivity tools is preferred.
